Cookie Policy

1. About this Cookie Policy
This Cookie Policy explains how The Daily Quiz (“we,” “us,” or “our”) and our partners use cookies, web beacons, pixels, software development kits (SDKs), local storage, and other similar technologies (collectively, “cookies”) on thedailyquiz.com. It is a companion to our Privacy Policy and is reached from a link inside that policy.
Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website. They allow a website to remember information about your visit, which can make it easier to visit the site again and make the site more useful to you. Some of the technologies described in this policy are not technically “cookies” (for example, pixels and local storage), but they perform similar functions and are covered by this policy.
2. Categories of cookies we use
We group cookies into four categories based on their purpose. Some categories are required for the Service to function; others depend on your consent where applicable law requires it.
Strictly necessary cookies
These cookies are required for the Service to function. They enable core features like user authentication, session management, security, and load balancing. Without them, the Service cannot operate properly. These cookies are always set and cannot be disabled through our preference tools, though you can block them in your browser settings (which will break sign-in and other features).
| Cookie / storage key | Set by | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| sb-*-auth-token | thedailyquiz.com | Supabase authentication session | 7 days |
| next-auth.csrf-token | thedailyquiz.com | CSRF protection | Session |
| next-auth.callback-url | thedailyquiz.com | Redirect after authentication | Session |
Analytics cookies
We use Google Analytics 4 (via Google Tag Manager) to understand how visitors interact with the Service in aggregate — which pages are visited, which quizzes are completed, how features perform, and where users drop off. The data is used to improve the Service.
| Cookie | Set by | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| _ga | Google Analytics | Distinguishes unique users | 2 years |
| _ga_* | Google Analytics | Persists session state for GA4 property | 2 years |
| _gid | Google Analytics | Distinguishes users for 24-hour reporting window | 24 hours |
Advertising and conversion-measurement cookies
These cookies and pixels are set by our advertising partners. They allow us to (a) measure the performance of our ad campaigns by attributing sign-ups and other actions to the ad that brought you to the Service, (b) build audiences for remarketing (showing our ads to people who have visited before), (c) prevent the same ad from being shown to you repeatedly, and (d) serve display ads on the Service that are funded by third-party advertising networks. See the “Advertising & Conversion Measurement” section of our Privacy Policy for a description of the data shared with each partner.
| Cookie / storage key | Set by | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| tdq_gclid (local storage) | thedailyquiz.com | Stores the Google click identifier (gclid) so we can attribute a later sign-up to the ad that drove the visit | 90 days |
| _gcl_au | Google (Conversion Linker) | Stores click information for Google Ads conversion measurement | 90 days |
| _gcl_aw, _gcl_dc | Google Ads | Conversion attribution and remarketing for Google Search and Display | 90 days |
| IDE, test_cookie | Google (doubleclick.net) | Ad targeting, measurement, and frequency capping on the Google Display Network and YouTube | Up to 13 months |
| __gads, __gpi | Google (display ad serving) | Display ad delivery, frequency capping, and personalization | Up to 13 months |
| _fbp | Meta (Facebook / Instagram) | Meta Pixel: conversion measurement and remarketing for Facebook and Instagram ads | 90 days |
| fr | Meta (facebook.com) | Ad delivery and measurement on Facebook | 90 days |
| _ttp | TikTok | TikTok Pixel: conversion measurement and remarketing for TikTok ads | 13 months |
| _pin_unauth, _pinterest_ct_ua | Pinterest Tag: conversion measurement and remarketing for Pinterest ads | 1 year | |
| Third-party ad-network cookies | Our display-ad partners and the demand-side platforms they work with | Display ad delivery, real-time bidding, frequency capping, and audience measurement. The specific cookies depend on the ad served and the partner that delivered it. | Varies |
The list above covers the cookies our current and imminent partners are expected to set. Because real-time advertising involves many downstream partners, the exact set of cookies present on any given page view can vary. You can always inspect what is set on your device using your browser's developer tools.
Functional cookies
These cookies remember your preferences and choices to provide a more personalized experience — for example, remembering quiz categories you have chosen, display settings, and which announcements you have dismissed.
3. Third-party services and partners
Some cookies and pixels on the Service are set by third parties. We work with the following categories of partners, each of which has its own privacy policy:
- Google — Google Tag Manager, Google Analytics 4, Google Ads (conversion tracking, remarketing tag, and Google Display Network), and Google Sign-In (privacy policy)
- Meta Platforms — Meta Pixel for advertising on Facebook and Instagram, and Facebook Login (privacy policy)
- TikTok — TikTok Pixel and Events API for advertising on TikTok (privacy policy)
- Pinterest — Pinterest Tag and Conversions API for advertising on Pinterest (privacy policy)
- Third-party advertising networks — The networks that serve display ads on our pages and their downstream demand-side platforms, advertisers, and measurement providers. These partners may set their own cookies and use device identifiers and IP address to deliver and measure ads.
4. Managing cookies and your choices
Browser controls
Most browsers let you view, delete, and block cookies through their settings. Common controls include:
- Seeing what cookies are stored on your device
- Deleting individual cookies or all cookies
- Blocking cookies from specific sites or all sites
- Enabling “Do Not Track” or Global Privacy Control signals (we do not currently make programmatic use of these signals, but most ad partners listed above honor them)
Blocking strictly necessary cookies will prevent you from signing in or tracking quiz completions. Blocking advertising cookies will not stop you from seeing ads on the Service, but the ads you see may be less relevant.
Opt out of interest-based advertising
You can limit how advertising partners use your data in several ways:
- Adjust ad personalization at adssettings.google.com (Google).
- Adjust ad preferences in your Facebook and Instagram account settings (Meta).
- Adjust ad preferences in your TikTok account under “Privacy → Ads.”
- Adjust personalization in your Pinterest account under “Privacy and data.”
- Visit optout.aboutads.info (Digital Advertising Alliance) or optout.networkadvertising.org (Network Advertising Initiative) to opt out of interest-based advertising from many of the third-party networks that serve display ads on the Service.
- Install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on to opt out of Google Analytics.
- On mobile, enable “Limit Ad Tracking” (iOS — Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking) or reset your advertising ID (Android — Settings → Privacy → Ads).
Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information (California and similar U.S. state laws)
We do not sell personal information for money. However, our use of advertising cookies, pixels, and audience uploads described above may qualify as “sharing” for cross-context behavioral advertising or as a “sale” under certain U.S. state privacy laws. To opt out, email privacy@thedailyquiz.com with the subject line “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information,” and we will (a) suppress your email from future advertising-audience uploads and (b) instruct our advertising partners to treat your data as opt-out where supported by their APIs. You should also use the browser and platform opt-outs listed above to limit collection in your browser. See our Privacy Policy Section 7 for a full description of your rights under U.S. state privacy laws.
5. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, the tools we use, or applicable law. The updated policy will be posted on this page with a revised “Last updated” date.
